Home Remedies for Sprained Ankle

Sprained ankles are formed when the ends of the joints are dislocated other than the normal position. When the ends are forced out of their normal ways, ankle sprains and it results in the malfunctioning of joints. It affects the other organs inside the bones like muscles, ligaments, nerves and blood vessels.

While ankle sprains, an immediate severe pain occurs. Other symptoms also include: internal pain, affected joint, immobility, swelling, deformation of the suffering member. Magnesium sulfate, also known as Epsom salt is great in this purpose as it is strongly needed by your bones so you can do a remedy with magnesium sulfate. Take a pedicure bowl filled with warm water then add one cup of magnesium sulfate in water to dissolve nicely. Now dip your foot in this water and wait for one half hour. Follow the procedure two times a day for 4 days until the pain and swelling disappear.

You can also do remedy for sprained ankle through castor oil as it contains triglyceride with a high range of ricin oleic acid. Due to the presence of these compounds, castor oil acts for inflammatory and analgesic purpose. Take a saucepan and add 3 tbsp of castor oil and heat it. After that pour the oil in other bowl and dip a cotton pad in it. Squeeze out the excess oil from the cotton pad then apply the pad on the affected area. You can use cling foil to easily hold the cotton pad. Place the hot water bottle on the sprained ankle then wait for at 15 minutes. Rub the ankle with the gradual hands using castor oil. Similarly, the lavender essential oil works exactly like olive oil. Lavender essential oil is diluted so it needs to be applying before the bedtime.

Hot milk is also very great to treat sprained ankle. Apply hot milk on a piece of cotton cloth and placed on the sprained part. Gently press the compress then remove it when it is cooled.

Ice-pack can be used to reduce pain, swelling or muscle spasm. If you feel unbearable pain then you can immediately do a first aid by applying ice pack on the affected area. Mud baths are also recommended to do in severe pain. Do this remedy regularly until you see improvement in swelling.

Cabbage leaves contain such properties that help in alleviate the pain and swelling. Apply cool cabbage compresses to the area where you feel pain and tie them with a cotton cloth. Remove it in the morning.
